  • The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has grown to more than 500 suspected cases and 130 suspected deaths, with cases also reported in neighboring Uganda and urban centers. The outbreak has been complicated by factors including a long lag in detecting the virus, the lack of approved vaccines or treatments for the Bundibugyo virus strain, and cuts to global health infrastructure. The US’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization and cuts to global health funding have weakened the ability to respond to the outbreak, making it harder to contain the spread and develop effective treatments. - Bloomberg
