  • Senate today overwhelmingly advanced a bipartisan housing package 89-9, with final passage expected as early as Thursday. - Politico
The Senate substitute to HR 6644, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, “seeks to combine the House and Senate’s housing priorities with the Trump administration’s push to ban large institutional investors from purchasing single-family homes. The White House has been vocal about its support for the current version of the legislation making its way through the Senate.” The bill also includes a temporary bar on the Federal Reserve from issuing a a central bank digital currency (CBDC). Senate Banking Committee Ranking Democrat Elizabeth Warren opposes the ban on CBDC, while some House Republicans want to make the ban permanent.

  • 60,000 Americans to lose their rental assistance and risk eviction unless Congress actsAP
The Emergency Housing Vouchers program, a federal program that pays rent for 60,000 families and individuals fleeing homelessness or domestic violence, is running out of money. Funding is expected to be used up by the end of next year, according to a letter from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The program, launched in 2021 as part of the pandemic-era American Rescue Plan Act, was allocated $5 billion to help pull people out of homelessness, domestic violence and human trafficking. Last month, HUD sent letters to groups dispersing the money, advising them to “manage your EHV program with the expectation that no additional funding from HUD will be forthcoming.”
